Toshiba Plans to Build Two New NAND Flash Memory Plants

With a total investment of 1.4 trillion Yen (US$12.8 billion; US$1=109.3 Yen), Japan-based Toshiba plans to build two new NAND flash memory plants in Japan, aiming to quadruple the company's current production capacity, Nikkei Business Daily reported on December 29, 2007.
The two new plants are scheduled to start producing NAND flash memory chips used in mobile phones and memory cards for digital cameras in fiscal year 2009 at the soonest. The company's current output stands at 200,000 units per month and is expected to reach 410,000 units at maximum in 2009. With the inauguration of the two new plants, Toshiba expects to produce up to 800,000 units per month.
Toshiba plans to collaborate with US partner SanDisk on the construction of these two new plants, according to Nikkei Business Daily.
